The Power of Words and Internal Dialogue

Words, especially the ones we use when we talk to ourselves have tremendous power over the quality of our life..Our internal dialogue has the ability to impact us greatly. One of the most profound tools for self love that I work on with my clients is the choice of words they use for themselves  in their vocabulary. We habitually use words to express how we feel and those words have the power to impact our mood and our vibration. When those words are repeated long enough, the words we keep saying to ourselves, in our own head, tend to become beliefs. And ultimately, our beliefs shape the life we live and also the quality of it.So what is Internal dialogue? Internal dialogue is the conversation our ego is having with itself. It’s the sub-textual voice that applies logic, reasoning, and beliefs to situations, people, and events. It also serves as a filter for those experiences and colors through the lens we see the world. The internal dialogue plays a vital role in deriving meaning from our life and reality. When our internal dialogue is dark, negative, and dismal, we see a world filtered through those qualities Alternatively, when we have positive, uplifting, and optimistic internal dialogue, we perceive those states as the backdrop of our life.Perhaps you grew up in an environment where negative inner dialogue was used loosely. The repetition of that dialogue creates a blueprint and a pattern that takes shape with great power. With Re-training our choice of words, we have the ability to change our inner dialogue vocabulary.

Change one word and you change your emotional, psychological, and even physical response to a situation”. Carolyn MyssI have consciously done this myself. It takes patience, cognition and conscious awareness to do so. The benefits have allowed for so much more peace love harmony and acceptance within myself, even at times when I would have been quick to self judge myself in the past. Here are some tips for retraining and cleaning up your inner dialogue:The first step to clean up our internal dialogue is to interrupt the pattern of thoughts that is habitually running inside our heads.Practicing meditation will create space in our thinking processes. And this space in thinking will allow us to install new beliefs, about ourselves and about the world we live in.To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders - Lao TzuMeditation cultivates our witnessing awareness and helps us pay attention to our mental commentary and its contents. Until we have the clarity of mind brought on by meditation, it becomes very difficult to override our tendency for rote intellectual repetition with positive internal dialogue.Let go of old beliefs. In a way, beliefs are sort of like mental software. The more we entertain certain beliefs, the more we will seek evidence that what we believe is actually true. It's all happening subconsciously, without us even realizing it. Our brain does it auto-magically for us.Our internal dialogue is a form of self-hypnosisThe moment we start improving our internal dialogue, we actually start installing new beliefs. And with those new beliefs, we also start taking new actions, to support those beliefs and to provide new evidence that what we believe is true.Get Rid of the negative talk.. make those negative words that you say to yourself  NO-NO'S.. categorize those as forbidden words you wouldn't want your child to say.Using positive affirmations with I am..“’I AM’ are two of the most powerful words, for what you put after them shapes your reality.” – UnknownAffirmations are strong, positive self-talk statements that can help to reprogram your subconscious mind and internal dialogue toward a more constructive mental environment. To “affirm” means to make firm that which you wish to be true or experience. Affirmations help us replace our old, stale, or mental commentary with new and more inspiring ideas. With regular practice, set your intentions and keep your attention on what you want rather than what you don’t.
