Welcoming Summer and the Significance of the Summer Solstice

Today marks the first day of summer; the longest day of the year where the sun shines longer and the nights are shorter. This is the time in Earth’s year-long orbit when the northern half of our planet is most tilted towards the Sun.

The sun is the source of life and light to every physical thing giving us new vitality with a blazing fire. We might feel naturally illuminated by the force of the sun, a charge of empowerment and new life force igniting us to allow for rebirth and change.

We are at a time where we are taking  leaps in consciousness that require our body, mind and emotions to go through pivotal changes. The changes we are going through, on all levels of the physical, emotional and mental bodies, are to help us hold more light. We are experiencing an upgrade where we become aware that light and frequency define who we are and how we think, feel and act. All of the challenges that appear now are meant to help us hold more light and be more light.

Melanie Beckler, author of Angel Messages, said the Summer Solstice is a time of “energetic opening” and “celestial potential” pouring out from the sun. She explained: “Symbolically the Summer Solstice represented enlightenment, awakening and the triumph of lightness over darkness.

We might experience subtle signals to help us perceive the multi dimensions of our being as real and substantial. This is the beginning of  living from the center of our soul where it is more important to be multi-dimensional rather than revert to the illusion of a one dimensional reality. Think of it as your soul waking up to it’s truth. Discerning what feels aligned with your soul. When you begin to feel the discomfort you’ll know that is the gift; the catalyst for freedom and change.

Once we begin to feel this light and freedom, we feel more creative, more energetic and more alive. We begin to celebrate ourselves through the freedom.

Celebrating the Summer Solstice

There are many ways to celebrate the solstice and to welcome summer. Many rituals and religious practices include Bonfires, sacred ceremony and dance.

I personally love summer more than any other season. Every warm day is a celebration for me where I innately feel so much more gratitude in the summer for my vitality. I love to be in touch with nature whether it’s at the beach or under the trees in the park or by a lake. My body naturally wakes up earlier to experience the sunrise and I can draw energy from the sun through meditation.

Wearing lighter clothing and feeling more sensual awakens my spirit. It’s a time where I cherish running and pushing my body to its limits detoxifying and purifying through sweating while I connect with the earth underneath my feet and around me. Gathering with friend’s, enjoying farm to table meals with seasonal vegetables herbs and fruit from the earth wakes my senses and truly lights me up. There are so many things about summer I love but what I’m embracing most at the moment is renewal.

As a holistic practitioner, I encourage people to move with the cycles of nature, and actually feel them; to get in touch with nature. If you get up early in the morning and you watch that special sunrise, you’ve been a part of a spiritual practice. However you choose to celebrate summer is a blessing and a personal authentic ritual for you. Spend time journaling or meditating on what changes need letting go of and how you envision your most desired summer to feel and look like.
