Ayurvedic Detox .. Taking the time to Rejuvenate

Cleanses are among the quickest tools to rejuvenate your body, reset your digestion and clean out what does not serve you anymore.

If you are health conscious, optimizing your health and happiness are most probably what you thrive for making conscious choices of the food, lifestyle and supplements you choose. Yet sometimes the energy tank feels depleted and our bodies start sending us signals that we are off-track and need to reset ourselves.

As you know, detox programs also called cleanses are very popular today, with a wide variety of choices and schools of thoughts for different types of needs, durations and budgets. Ayurveda believes in a specific system for purification and rejuvenation that has been used for thousands of years.

Pancha Karma;

Ayurveda’s classical detoxifying system is called Pancha Karma and is known as the ultimate cleanse administered and supervised by a licensed Ayurvedic practitioner and/or Ayurvedic Doctor in an Ayurvedic Wellness Center. The main focus is to cleanse the body through 5 different actions.

Ayurvedic Home Cleanse;

Ayurvedic home cleanses also ripe great results. Tailored and supervised also by a licensed Ayurvedic practitioner your home program will include eating cleansing meals such as Kitchari (see recipe below), drinking cleansing liquids, juices and herbal supplements and finally rejuvenating Ayurvedic beauty and wellness rituals designed for you to achieve optimal results. Your program is tailored to your specific goals, dosha and how strong you are to undertake a cleanse.

Q & A

Who is the ideal cleanse candidate?

If you are experiencing some or all of the following symptoms, your body will benefit from a cleanse:

  • Digestive disorders such as; constipation, bloating, gas, acidity, burning indigestion
  • Weight gain,
  • Feeling tired or emotionally stuck,
  • Allergic reactions
  • Bad body odor or breath
  • Skin rashes or itching skin

What are the do’s and don’ts with cleansing?

Rest (minimum sleep 7-8 hours a day during the program)
Reduce your work load and exercise routine
Daily massage (self-massage or treatment)
Follow the plan that has been designed for you
Reduce your travels and outings (Main cleanse)
Organize your meals (about 30 minutes a day)

Cleanse Recipe; Kitchari for kapha


  • 1 cup of split mung beans
  • 1 cup of quinoa or basmati rice
  • 1 tbsp of ghee
  • 3 ½ cups of water
  • 1 tbsp of finely grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tsp Kapha Seasoning (see below)
  • 1 cup of leafy greens (Kale, collard, bok choy)


Melt the ghee in a saucepan add ginger, mung beans and rice or quinoa.
Sauté for two minutes on medium heat.
Add the water and the seasoning.
Bring the water to a boil and cook uncovered on low heat for 45 minutes.
Add Leafy greens 10 minutes before the end.
Simmer until the water has evaporated and the rice and mung beans are soft.

Kapha Seasoning

1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp ground turmeric
1 tbsp dried sage
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp ground clove
½ tsp cayenne or chili powder

Grind all ingredients in spice mill or coffee grinder.
Place in dry, airtight jar and shake well.
Store in cool, dark area and use within one month.
