Moore is More
Confession: I am in love with Mona Moore.
For so many reasons. Let me take it back. Last February I was on the hunt for a pair of booties. A true Los Angeles fashionista directed me to Mona Moore, the Venice boutique on Main Street. I walked into the shop and met Michelle Moot the COO, who is now one of my best girlfriends.
First of all, the gorgeous former warehouse space is alive with high vibrational energy. The colors, style element and cutting edge decor featuring exposed lighting and piping, along with neon-tubed art and Indian rugs, all makes me want to hang out there all day.
Owner Lisa Bush’s inspiration is a Mona Lisa meets Mary Tyler Moore vibe. Her background combined with a love for Paris, fashion and her grandfather’s shoe business led her to passionately curating one of the most interesting and beautiful wardrobe and footwear collections I’ve yet to see in a boutique setting.
Many of the designers that Mona Moore carries are French in origin, such as Martin Margiela, Lemaire, The Row, Marsell, Haider Ackermann, Ann Demeulemeester, Robert Clergerie, Chloe and Vetements.
While perusing the shop, I found an amazing pair of mules by Vetements, featuring heels constructed by a Bic lighter. They’re extremely comfortable, chic and edgy. When I tried them on, I had on ill-proportioned jeans on and Michelle suggested better styling options. Michelle’s experience in fashion (she worked at Barneys for 20 years as a selling supervisor in designer shoes) gave her fantastic styling expertise.
What I also love about the Mona Moore women is their authenticity and respect for fashion. They wouldn’t allow someone to purchase something if it didn’t look right. I never feel pressured into shopping and sometimes I just enjoy popping in for a friendly chat.
My favorite and most sacred purchase is the rare Sandalwood Mala beads with rose-colored diamonds from Yassi Mazandi. They has been such a gift for me and I rarely leave home without them.
My purchases for fall include Bordeaux suede heels from Laurence Dacade, dust-colored knee high boots from Margiela that are the perfect height and super comfortable, and the double layer Cargo legging and hoodie by Haider Ackermann, which feel delicious. All these pieces are fabulous, wearable and are great styling elements that don’t look contrived or trendy.
